Benalla Rural City Council is excited to announce the Victorian Seniors Festival 2024, set to take place throughout the month of October.
This year's festival promises a vibrant array of events designed to celebrate and engage our senior community members.
The festival's theme, "Explore, Engage, Evolve," will be reflected in a variety of activities including Bollywood for Seniors, Senior Sit and Sing, a Fashion Parade, and a Centenarian Exhibition at the Benalla Visitors Information Centre.
Additionally, there will be movie screenings and other events aimed at fostering community spirit and participation.
Mayor Cr Danny Claridge expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming festival, stating, "We are thrilled to offer such a diverse range of events for our senior community. This festival is a wonderful opportunity for our seniors to come together, have fun, and explore new interests."
One of the highlights of the festival is the provision of free public transport for eight days, from Sunday 6 October to Sunday 13 October. Free public transport is available to all Victorian Senior Card holders.
"It is great to see all our seniors get the opportunity to participate in the festival events without any barriers," said Mayor Claridge. "Providing free transport is a fantastic initiative from Public Transport Victoria."
For those seeking information and support, the Age Well in Benalla Info Hub will be open every second Wednesday from 10am to 12pm at U3A Room 2 in the Benalla Seniors Community Centre. Volunteers will be available to provide information on services and activities within the community.
"Our Aging Well Info Hub is a great resource for seniors to learn about the various services available to them," Mayor Claridge noted. "We encourage everyone to drop by, have a chat, and enjoy a coffee with our friendly volunteers."
Celebration Day will be held at Federation Square on 6 October and will feature performances from ukulele groups across Victoria, adding a musical touch to the festivities.
