A disabled woman rescued by CFA firefighters from a burning home in North Bendigo last night, has died in hospital.

Crews were called to the fire on Kookaburra Avenue last night at 9.48.

Two fire fighters equipped with breathing apparatus, gained entry through the rear of the unit, rescuing the woman from the fire.

CFA District 2 Rostered Duty Officer Hugh Kelly has commended the firefighter's efforts.

"Within a minute of arriving on scene, crews gained entry though the rear door," he said.

"The lady was rescued and brought to the front yard where firefighters utilised their Emergency Management Response skills, performing CPR on the lady until Ambulance Victoria arrived."

"When paramedics arrived they acted in a support role until the patient was taken to hospital."

"Unfortunately, and despite the best efforts of all involved, the lady has later passed away."
