Council is kicking off stage three of the grant funded Berridale Beautification Masterplan with a Main Street Study of Jindabyne Road, which will form a core part of the detailed design for this project.
Our heritage advisor will be on location over the coming weeks and months photographing and documenting Jindabyne Road.
We are seeking any images our community may have of Jindabyne Road in Berridale from the 1860s at Oliver's Store, through to the modern town in the 2000s. Please contact Council if you have images you would like to contribute, and we will arrange to have them professionally scanned and archived.
The Berridale Beautification Masterplan is possible thanks to Round Five of the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund.
What is a Main Street Study?
The purpose of a Main Street Study is to improve the streetscape to make it more attractive as a destination, so that businesses can take advantage of the greater number of visitors and their longer visiting time. Another desired outcome is that a more vibrant community and local economy results in a greater ability and willingness to conserve historic buildings and streetscapes.
What does a Main Street Study mean for Berridale?
Once adopted, the studies provide specific and general advice on heritage and urban design issues for Berridale's main street (Jindabyne Road).
This is done with the aim of assisting private property owners and Council to carry out appropriate conservation and improvement work to properties and public areas.
It should be noted that the delivery of the actions in these plans will be subject to Council's ability to resource, fund and prioritise through its future delivery program – the development of which will include community consultation.
