While Mooroopna prepares to host the upcoming State Championships, competitors from Districts 15 and 16 have had their own successful running of the West Region Rural Championships.
The event saw junior and senior competitors competing on a beautiful day at Waubra, with CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan also attending the event.
The junior competitors taking to the running tracks were in the 11-13-year-old, or the 11-15-year-old categories, and were from Stuart Mill, Beazley's Bridge, Ascot, Napoleons-Enfield, Miner's Rest, Beaufort, Elaine, and Millbrook brigades
The same eight brigades also fielded senior teams, with a total of 22 teams across the events.
Along with the local brigades, CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan also visited the Waubra track to support the competitors.
Accompanied by DCO Michael Boatman and District 16 ACFO Bernie Fradd, CO Heffernan met with many volunteers, including Bill Loader who has attended every West Championships since 1945.
Bill's son Peter Loader was also present, with granddaughter Dominique Eldridge who was competing, making three generations from Ascot Fire Brigade who have participated in the Championships.
Beazley's Bridge "B" took out the aggregate title in the 11-13 category, finishing at the top after recording a phenomenal time in the Tanker - Drawing Water event.
Elaine A topped the 11-15 aggregate tally, while in the seniors it was once again Beazley's Bridge brigade that took out the title in Division 1.
