Bethanie Housing Adds 90 Senior Homes in Mt. Lawley

  • Preferred proponent selected to build and operate 90-dwelling community development in Mount Lawley
  • East Parade site will provide 90 community housing dwellings for over 55s
  • Site identified through Cook Government's pilot Housing Diversity Pipeline

The Cook Government has today announced Bethanie Housing Limited as the preferred proponent to develop and operate a new 90-dwelling community housing development in Mount Lawley, as part of the Housing Diversity Pipeline.

Following selection as the preferred proponent, the Department of Communities and Bethanie Housing Limited have entered into an Early Works Agreement to facilitate further development of the project's design and other required steps to deliver 90 new social homes for seniors.

The proposed three-storey development on the corner of East Parade and Guildford Road in Mount Lawley will deliver 90 community housing dwellings located close to the CBD and local amenities.

The 11,000 square metre development site is part of the Cook Government's Housing Diversity Pipeline, which maximises the potential of lazy government land and increases the availability of social and affordable housing.

Bethanie Housing Limited is a registered community housing provider managing more than 500 community housing properties for Western Australians in Perth and the South West.

As the preferred proponent, Bethanie Housing Limited will partner with the State Government, through the Department of Communities, throughout the project to ensure a high-quality development.

The development will be built to silver Liveable Homes standards. Upon construction completion, Bethanie Housing Limited will provide tenancy, maintenance and placemaking services for the building and its residents.

A development application is expected to be lodged in early 2025 by Bethanie Housing Limited.

As stated by Planning and Housing Minister John Carey:

"The Cook Labor Government is doing everything we can to boost housing supply across the State - particularly for the most vulnerable members of our community.

"This well-located site in Mount Lawley will offer and create an accessible and affordable housing project, constructed and operated by preferred proponent, Bethanie Housing Limited.

"The East Parade development will deliver 90 high-quality social homes for vulnerable seniors, within close proximity to Mount Lawley's shopping and recreational areas.

"Our Government continues to unlock lazy government land through the Housing Diversity Pipeline to maximise the potential of the land for social and affordable housing.

"The Housing Diversity Pipeline is one of many reforms supporting this Government's record $4.5 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures."
