Griffith bus users can look forward to a new, improved network from 18 September including around 30 per cent more services.
Transport for NSW Acting Regional Director South Brendon James said the changes are part of the NSW Government's 16 Regional Cities Services Improvement Program to deliver better public transport for the regions.
"There will be 77 extra services per week, simpler and more regular timetables, better connections to hospitals in Griffith, new services on Sundays and public holidays, and new services for Griffith's growing suburbs," Mr James said.
"Transport for NSW has worked with Griffith City Council and the community, asking people what they wanted. The result is a better, smarter bus network for all of Griffith that will better meet people's needs to get to medical appointments, work, shops and social events."
"These improvements will make a real difference to Griffith residents and visitors with services designed to meet population demand, better connections to health services and greater coverage on weekends.
The changes include a new bus route linking South Griffith and Pioneer directly with the Griffith Hospital precinct. Additionally, there will be bus services to St Vincent's Private Community Hospital.
There are also expanded bus services to new residential developments in Collina and South Griffith and new connections to Griffith Regional Sports Centre and Griffith Exies Sports Club.
In addition, there will be extra middle-of-day weekday services to Yenda, Beelbangera, Yoogali, Bilbul, Hanwood and Darlington Point and new school holiday services to Darlington Point and Hanwood.
School bus services in Griffith will not be affected by the changes being introduced.
Griffith's new bus network will go live on 18 September.
From today you can go to transportnsw.info/griffith-bus for the new bus network bus map and other information about the new bus services, including the answers to some frequently asked questions.
From 4 September, the updated timetables will be available at www.transportnsw.info/routes
There will also be a Travel Experience Day next week allowing community members to familiarise themselves with public transport and practise getting on and off the bus.
Representatives from Transport for NSW and Griffith Buslines will be there to speak to people about their individual travel needs and to assist customers, particularly those with disabilities and mobility challenges, to gain confidence using buses.
The Travel Experience Day will be held at Memorial Park, Banna Avenue Griffith on Friday, 1 September between 11am and 2pm. Bookings can be made at https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/griffith-bus-travel-experience-day-tickets-687063043057?aff=oddtdtcreator
