Professor Jonathan Weber has outlined his new vision for Imperial College Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) over the next five years.
The AHSC is a unique partnership between Imperial College London, The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust.
Its aim is to improve health outcomes by harnessing scientific discoveries and translating them as quickly as possible into new diagnostics, devices, drugs and digital tools for use in the NHS and beyond. It also aims to advance clinical care through research, education and training.
In the video above, Professor Jonathan Weber, the AHSC's Director, talks about how the AHSC will be advancing discoveries and new treatments for people with cancer through the Cancer Research UK Convergence Science Centre. The Centre aims to bring together experts from different scientific disciplines such as physics, data science, engineering biological sciences and medicine.
Professor Weber also explains the importance of sharing, analysing and using health data for research and how this will lead to new discoveries and new approaches to healthcare.
The AHSC is also aiming to harness the research strengths of the College to make significant improvements in children's health and wellbeing ranging from critical care, paediatric care in the community and adolescent mental health.
