Local access to better health care is a step closer for Yanchep, with the first stage of a new health precinct open to the community in one of the fastest growing areas of Western Australia.
Edith Cowan University (ECU) Health Centre Yanchep East is part of a new multi-purpose primary care facility, funded by the Australian Government ($10.4 million), the Western Australian Government ($8.1m) and ECU ($2.3m).
The new health centre will support the fast growing population of Yanchep and the surrounding suburbs, which see high levels of chronic disease, emergency department presentations, preventable hospitalisations and mental ill-health.
The new facility will ensure the Yanchep community has better and more timely access to primary health care.
When complete, the precinct will house a range of primary care services, including allied health and multidisciplinary services.
The centre will also provide better support and learning opportunities for ECU students and the healthcare staff through research and training.
Not-for-profit disability service organisation Ability WA will open at Yanchep East in November, providing home-based care services and onsite client services.
ECU's Psychological Services Centre (PSC) and Counselling will operate at the site from early next year and will offer student placements for the Master of Clinical Psychology and Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy, as well as affordable psychological and counselling services for individuals, groups and families.
ECU Health Centre Yanchep East is easily accessible, located in walking distance of the central shopping centre.
Construction on the adjacent Yanchep West site will begin late this year.
