As we prepare to move quickly on much needed improvements to Old South Road, Wingecarribee Shire Council have made arrangements to minimise disruption for residents.
"Taking on board community feedback about the closure of Old South Road for construction, coinciding with works at Station Street, we've balanced these concerns with the urgency of completing the required rehabilitation." said Lisa Miscamble, General Manager WSC.
A vital local distributor, Old South Road is a priority project for residents. To avoid inconveniencing local business owners and residents, construction will initially focus on the Northern end, between Aylmerton and Range Road, followed by the section from Range Road to Merrigang Street once Station Street has re-opened to two-way traffic.
"In line with our commitment we made, to upgrade our extensive road network, this will be one of the Shire's largest and most complex civic construction projects in recent years."

Carissa Wells, Chair of Business Southern Highlands, said businesses will benefit from the improved traffic flow and access once the improvements are in place. "It's good to see that steps have been taken to minimise the impact of what will be an extensive reconstruction, on the local business community. Ultimately the upgrades will bring lasting benefits and ease traffic congestion, making the area more conducive to better trading conditions."
Weather permitting, Station Street will be re-opened to two-way traffic by the end of February. Additional improvements to the station carpark and garden, and at Mittagong Creek Bridge on Merrigang Street, should be finalised by March.
The community can look forward to improved traffic flow, a better travel experience on safer roads, and easier access between residential areas and town centres.
The Old South Road upgrade is just the beginning of good things to come in 2023. Continued success with many of the grant submissions Council made in 2022, will make it possible to deliver on further projects that matter most to the community.
