The Building Services Board has refused to renew the building contractor registration of Beyond Builders Pty Ltd (BC103289, cancelled) on financial grounds.
After reviewing Beyond Builders' application for registration renewal and a report prepared by Building and Energy, the Board was not satisfied the company met the financial requirements for registration.
The Board's decision enables homeowners with incomplete or defective building work by Beyond Builders to make a claim against their policy of home indemnity insurance (HII).
It is understood that Beyond Builders is yet to complete 13 home building projects.
Deputy Director General for Building and Energy, Saj Abdoolakhan, said people with contracts and HII policies with Beyond Builders should contact QBE on 1300 790 723 to discuss arrangements.
"A key function of the Building Services Board is to assess applications to ensure registration is granted only to building service providers who meet a range of requirements set out in the Building Services (Registration) Act 2011," Mr Abdoolakhan said.
"This includes the capacity to meet debts as and when they fall due, meaning the service provider has the financial means to complete building contracts. The registration and renewal rules provide important consumer protections and bolster the confidence of all participants in WA's building and construction industry."
Beyond Builders, based in Dianella, was first registered as a building contractor in April 2020. The company's director, Atalla Abbas, holds builder registration (BC101011, BP101256) as a sole trader, trading as Consbuild. A financial assessment will also be conducted as part of the renewal process for this registration.
