The Tasmanian Government is continuing to build a better health system that delivers the best possible outcomes for all Tasmanians.
A development application to build the new Bicheno Ambulance Station at 17 Sinclair Street, Bicheno has been submitted to the Glamorgan Spring Bay Council.
This follows positive feedback from stakeholder workshops held in Bicheno in July 2024 and a public display in the Bicheno public library of the designs for the new ambulance station in November 2024.
Minister for Health, Jacquie Petrusma, said the new Bicheno Ambulance Station will provide a contemporary facility for both paramedics and volunteers to operate from, enhancing emergency care to Bicheno and the surrounding area.
"The design includes a drive-through garage with designated infection control areas, training facilities for both paramedics and volunteers, ambulance vehicle cleaning facilities, and separate accommodation for volunteer ambulance officers while on shift," Minister Petrusma said.
"Importantly, there is capacity for upgrading from the current single branch station to meet the emergency medical needs of the community into the future, as the demand for services increases.
"We are committed to building even more new ambulance stations across the State, with our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future to deliver new stations at Snug, Legana, King Island, and Cygnet."
Construction of the Bicheno Ambulance Station is expected to start in mid-2025 and be completed in mid-2026.
