Big Boost For Health And Medical Research

The 2025 Early to Mid-Career Researchers grant opportunity will provide up to $44.8 million to support:

  • early career researchers to address major health challenges for priority populations through early stage, small scale research projects
  • mid-career researchers to lead large-scale interdisciplinary research to improve health care and the effectiveness of the health system for priority populations
  • early to mid-career researchers to turn their research into new health policies and practice.

Up to $24 million is available under the 2025 Cardiovascular Health grant opportunity for projects that:

  • support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to access best-practice, culturally safe care for cardiovascular disease and stroke
  • run clinical trials that test new treatments and interventions for cardiovascular disease and stroke
  • improve the recovery and survivorship of people with cardiovascular disease or stroke
  • reduce the number of Australians experiencing cardiovascular disease and stroke through better preventive health interventions.

The 2025 Incorporating Patient Data in Health Technology Assessment Decision Making grant opportunity will provide $16 million for projects that:

  • generate and use consumer/patient data in health technology assessment and decision making
  • develop approaches to evaluate the long-term effectiveness of highly specialised therapies, emerging medicines or medicine-related health technologies
  • support the inclusion of patient-reported outcomes in the assessment of the long-term safety and efficacy of implantable medical devices.

The 2025 International Clinical Trial Collaborations grant opportunity will provide $13 million for projects that:

  • promote Australian involvement in international research, with clinical trial sites set up and coordinated in Australia
  • provide high-quality evidence of the effectiveness of novel health treatments, drugs or devices to support decisions on their use in Australia.
