Around 850 people attended the Big Day Out at Riverside Park last Friday and despite a few clouds and passing showers it was smiles all round.
The Big Day Out is an inclusive community celebration with entertainment and free activities to suit all people of all ages and abilities. It is held on the first Friday in December and raises community awareness of International Day of People with Disability.
Community Project Officer, Aisha Spokes said that while the Big Day Out is a fun day for everyone who attends, the benefits went much further this year.
'Making sure there will be enough food for the day is never an easy task. To ensure nothing went to waste, the Macleay Disability Inclusion Group partnered with Kempsey Neighbourhood Centre to distribute to those in the community doing it tough.
'So many groups and individuals came together to make this day the success it was. It's been a wonderful day and knowing we give any excess food to families in need of some extra support is the icing on the cake', said Ms Spokes.
The Big Day Out is proudly supported by NSW Government as part of their Reconnecting Regional NSW Community Events Program. The event would not be possible without the generosity of the following sponsors and supporters - Key Employment, Coastline Credit Union, Macleay Options, South West Rocks Country Club, Community Housing Limited, Ability Options, ETC, St Vincent de Paul and Kempsey Macleay RSL Club.
