The Big Summer Read has encouraged hundreds of young people to read books over the summer, with the challenge now complete.
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said the Big Summer Read saw children and young people take part in fun and engaging activities, helping them to maintain literacy skills over the school break.
"This reading challenge supports our efforts to lift literacy skills across Tasmania while reinforcing the fun side of reading and helping to develop a lifelong love of reading," Minister Palmer said.
"Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who completed the challenge – it's wonderful to see so many young people sharing the joy of reading during the Big Summer Read.
"We were pleased to see more than 1,300 participants across Tasmania take part in the challenge and collectively read and review more than 6,000 books.
"Literacy and reading skills are the building blocks for life, and an important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future is to lift literacy outcomes for all students."
The major statewide prize winner of the Big Summer Read, Quinn - a reader at Deloraine library - completed the challenge by reading 10 books or more and has won an eReader, a $200 book voucher and books to help him to continue his reading journey.
Local prize winners at libraries across Tasmania will also receive book related prizes after completing the reading challenge.
The Big Summer Read finished on 2 February 2025 and will return in December 2025 for the next summer holidays.
