The final stage of the upgrade of Birkenhead Naval Reserve is now underway, to bring a brand new playground to the lower peninsula. To alleviate flooding on the lower peninsula during heavy rainfall, most of this project is hidden underground where a complex stormwater management system and pump station has been constructed. This will sit underneath the new playground and open space which is now being built. The reserve will act as a detention basin to hold overflow water during heavy rain before it is released into the river.
We received grant funding under the Australian Government "Building Our Future" Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program for the Birkenhead Naval Reserve open space upgrade with the rest of the project funded by the City of PAE.
