A high-risk intersection in Yarrawonga is set for an upgrade, with Moira Shire Council welcoming funding for the upgrade through the Federal Government's 2025-26 Black Spot Program.
A roundabout will be constructed at the Hume and Piper streets intersection, with upgraded signage and line marking and new lighting as part of the $463,000 project, with works expected to commence in early 2026.
The Black Spot Program targets locations where serious crashes have occurred, or are at risk of occurring, identified in partnership with communities.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Graeme Emonson PSM said the funding was a very welcome investment into continuing to improve road safety in Yarrawonga and the broader Moira Shire.
"The Black Spot Program has been crucial in supporting Council to carry out some really important upgrades already, including works currently underway at the Five Ways intersection in Yarrawonga, Labuan Road in Strathmerton, and other intersection upgrades in Cobram and Yarroweyah," Dr Emonson said.
"We are pleased to see funding for a roundabout at Piper and Hume streets in this year's program, which will help improve safety and traffic flow in a busy area of Yarrawonga.
"Upgrading our infrastructure at priority areas within our towns to make it safer and more accessible is really important to ensure our road network keeps up with the needs of a growing community."
The 2025-26 Black Spot Program allocated more than $12.2 million to 71 road safety improvement projects in Victoria, including the Yarrawonga roundabout.
