Black Zone Must Evacuate By 12 Noon Sunday 2 February

The black zone is Cluden, Hermit Park, Idalia, Oonoonba, Railway Estate and Rosslea. (View map of flood zones).

Water in the Ross River is rising fast and there will be dangerous and life-threatening flooding. Your life may be at risk.

Residents need to leave as soon as it is safe to do so, before 12 noon Sunday. If you do not leave it may become too dangerous for emergency services to rescue you.

Townsville Local Disaster Management Group Chair Andrew Robinson said residents must leave by 12 noon.

"Residents in the black zone must evacuate by 12 noon tomorrow," Cr Robinson said.

"Prepare now and leave as soon as you can. Do not wait for further advice or emergency services to come to your door.

"Prepare your home and yourself. Move important documents and items to high areas, or take them with you. Make sure you have enough clothes and medication for at least three days.

"Do not stay in your home. If you do not have a safe place to go to, make your way to an evacuation centre before 12 noon."

Evacuation centres are open.

Heatley Secondary College at 321 Fulham Road, Heatley is open now. Pets are not permitted.

Townsville Sports Precinct (Red Track) at 24 Burke Street, North Ward will open at 9pm. Pets are permitted, but dogs and cats must be in portable carriers or crates large enough that they can stand, turn around and lie down.

If you have very young children, pack enough nappies for up to five days, wipes, bottles, formula or baby food. Plan to not have a fridge or microwave.

If you do not drive, call your support service, a family member or a friend to organise transport.

Emergency services will be door knocking properties at Cluden, Hermit Park, Idalia, Oonoonba, Railway Estate and Rosslea to make sure you leave by 12 noon.

If it's flooded, forget it. Do not drive through flood waters.
