Blackshaw Gould Community Pavilion Available For Hire

Georges River Council

Georges River Council is pleased to share that Blackshaw Gould Community Pavilion is available for hire.

The community pavilion was named after two iconic Australian sporting heroes, Les Blackshaw and Nell Gould, proudly honouring their achievements.

Les Blackshaw is known as 'the father of cricket' in the St George district and he played a pivotal role in the creation of Hurstville Oval. He was also a key member of the St George District Cricket Club where he volunteered to support multiple junior sports and recreational clubs in the area.

Nell Gould made her mark as a trailblazer in women's athletics at a local, state and international level. Beyond her athletic prowess, Gould co-founded the St George District Women's Athletic Club and was awarded an Order of Australian Medal in 1987 for services to sport and the community.

The pavilion is located on the south-east side of the Hurstville Oval, an iconic field that has hosted the international cricket T20 series, Ryobi Cup and the Women's Big Bash League.

To celebrate the diverse range of sports, athletic achievements and personalities, a display cabinet has been set up in the venue.

The venue holds a capacity of 80 people and is furnished with a main hall area, kitchenette, air conditioning and a long, sheltered balcony area overlooking the pristine Hurstville Oval.

The facility is also accessible as it is within walking distance from Hurstville Station and Bus Interchange, with street parking also available.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "The Blackshaw Gould Community Pavilion is more than just a venue – it is a space designed to bring people together.

"Set against the iconic Hurstville Oval, this modern and accessible space provides the perfect setting for a variety of community gatherings - whether it be for a local event, workshop, or celebration. I look forward to seeing our community make the most of this wonderful facility."
