Department of State

As stated by Spokesperson Matthew Miller:

They discussed the urgent need for collective international action to end the war in Sudan and prevent famine and further atrocity in what is the world's largest humanitarian crisis. The Secretary expressed his grave concern about the recent Houthi detentions of UN, diplomatic, and NGO staff, as well as their continued reckless attacks in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The Secretary and the Foreign Minister addressed the ongoing efforts to achieve an enduring ceasefire in Gaza, secure the release of all hostages, and facilitate a surge in humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza, as well as coordination for a post-conflict period. The Secretary thanked the Foreign Minister for Saudi Arabia's continued delivery of humanitarian assistance to the people in Gaza.
