Blinken Leads Talks on Western Hemisphere Prosperity

As stated by Spokesperson Matthew Miller:

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met today with foreign ministers and senior officials from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Paraguay, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Uruguay on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders' Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Secretary engaged partners in a robust discussion on advancing peace, security, and prosperity for the people of the Western Hemisphere.

Secretary Blinken and his counterparts discussed the urgency of heeding the Haitian transitional government's request to transition the Multinational Security Support mission to a UN peacekeeping operation. The Secretary and his counterparts discussed the need for the international community to provide immediate support to the Haitian people. The Secretary also underscored the United States' support for the Venezuelan people and highlighted the importance of sustained international pressure on Maduro and his representatives to recognize the results of the election and allow for a peaceful return to democracy.
