Blinken Meets South Korea's Acting President Choi

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met today with Acting President Choi Sang-mok of the Republic of Korea (ROK). The Secretary expressed condolences for the tragic loss of life regarding the Jeju Airlines incident and reiterated that the U.S. stands ready to support the ROK during this difficult time. The Secretary reaffirmed the United States' confidence in the enduring strength of the U.S.-ROK Alliance, the linchpin of peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. He underscored the United States' ironclad commitment to the defense of the ROK. The Secretary and Acting President also discussed how both sides will work together to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and trilateral cooperation with Japan on the full range of important global and regional issues, including during the ROK's 2025 APEC host year.
