Blinken Meets With Panamanian FM Vásquez

As stated by Spokesperson Matthew Miller:

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez today to congratulate him on his appointment as foreign minister following the July 1 inauguration of President Mulino and on Panama's election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

The Secretary and Foreign Minister discussed a full range of shared interests, which include bolstering inclusive economic growth, promoting democratic governance and values, humanely managing migration, and combating drug trafficking. The Secretary emphasized that cooperation in these areas creates the conditions for a safer, more prosperous future for our two countries and the region. He also reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-Panama partnership and welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding signed on July 1 to support Panama's efforts to safely and humanely repatriate irregular migrants with no legal basis to remain in Panama.
