Blinken Meets With UN Secretary-General Guterres 5 June

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres today in Washington, DC. The Secretary thanked the Secretary-General for his public support of the proposed deal to reach a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, secure the release of all hostages, and end the crisis in Gaza. The Secretary emphasized the importance of the Security Council speaking out to call for implementation of this deal without delay. Both Secretary Blinken and Secretary-General Guterres underscored the imperative of getting humanitarian assistance to people in Gaza and supporting UN efforts to deliver life-saving aid. They also discussed U.S. cooperation with the UN on support for Ukraine's efforts towards a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace. Finally, the Secretary and the Secretary-General discussed the conflict in Sudan and the importance of taking every measure to end the violence, protect civilians, and scale up humanitarian assistance.
