Blinken Talks With Jordan's FM Safadi 23 October

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke with Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi to discuss regional developments. The Secretary underscored the importance of securing the release of all hostages in Gaza, alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people, and ending the war in a way that provides peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians. The Secretary emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and scaling the humanitarian response to deliver urgently needed aid to the people of Gaza. He thanked Jordan for its leadership in facilitating the delivery of critical aid to Palestinian civilians in Gaza through the Jordan Corridor. The Secretary also reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the United States to the preservation of the historic status quo at the holy sites in Jerusalem.

On Lebanon, the Secretary discussed the need to reach a diplomatic resolution to the conflict between Israel and Hizballah that fully implements United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 and allows civilians on both sides of the Blue Line to return to their homes. He reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to work with Jordan and other partners across the region to provide lasting stability. The Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister looked forward to meeting in person in the near future.
