ZURICH, April 3, 2025 - Amcor (NYSE: AMCR, ASX: AMC), a global leader in developing and producing responsible packaging solutions, has announced that previous Amcor Lift-Off winner, Bloom Biorenewables, has successfully secured over $14 million in Series A funding led by Anaïs Ventures and Valquest Partners, joined by other venture capital firms and strategic investors, including Amcor. This substantial investment will allow Bloom to expand its operations, improve research and development (R&D) activities and strengthen its market presence.
Amcor and Bloom have been collaborating on R&D projects in more sustainable plastics, aiming to advance packaging solutions with a higher share of bio-based content that meet top performance and sustainability standards. This collaboration involves working with a resin-manufacturing partner to incorporate Bloom's novel molecule into polyethylene terephthalate (PET), enhancing its properties to be more sustainable and effective for packaging purposes.
Bloom is a spin-off of the Swiss Federal Technology Institute of Lausanne, based in Switzerland, and has pioneered a technology to transform plant waste into valuable chemical products. Its technology yields various products with a wide array of applications, including packaging. Bloom is helping lead the global shift toward a circular economy, offering products with high performance and CO2 footprint reduction compared to current alternatives.
In 2022, Bloom was a winner of Amcor's Lift-Off program, receiving a $250,000 award and access to Amcor's best-in-class R&D resources. Frank Lehmann, vice president of Corporate Venturing and Open Innovation at Amcor, said, "This collaboration highlights Amcor's dedication to fostering innovation and supporting startups that are driving the future of sustainable packaging.
