A profound commitment to delivering exceptional care for her community is one of the many attributes Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), Ainslie Hines demonstrates as she leads a dedicated team at Blue Mountains Hospital.

Ainslie's career in health began at Royal North Shore Hospital where she gained extensive experience working across multiple wards until she reached her chosen field of practice, Urology.
Having then worked in smaller private hospitals, day surgery centres and aged care facilities in an accreditation advisory role she then found her home away from home, in 2002 when she joined Blue Mountains Hospital.
Now 22 years later Ainslie has risen the ranks and become an inspiring leader as Nurse Unit Manager in the hospital's Rehabilitation Ward where one of her key focuses is the empowerment of her staff.
"My aim for my staff is to understand the why behind everything they do to deliver their care comprehensively and holistically. I want my staff to take pride in their work and always look at ways we can become more efficient," says Ainslie.
As part of her commitment for upskilling staff, Ainslie has developed reference guides to enhance skills and confidence among her team. The reference guides have been well received by junior nurses, as well as senior nurses who are constantly adapting to changing policies and procedures.
Blue Mountains Hospital Acting General Manager, Naomi Jensen says Ainslie is an asset to the leadership team.
"Ainslie not only brings a wealth of clinical experience that supports her in the role as NUM, she also has so many wonderful personal attributes that make her shine as a leader. She is focused on supporting her team ensuring the provision of safe, comprehensive, kind and inclusive care to all of their patients," says Naomi.

"There are no shortages of employment opportunities in health with new branches constantly emerging. Expose yourself to a wide variety of specialities and you will carry these skills with you throughout your career," says Ainslie.
