Body Found After Rescue Operation - Greenwich

A body of a man has been recovered after a car entered the water in Sydney's north yesterday.

About 4.15pm yesterday (Monday 14 April 2025), emergency services were called to O'Connell Street, Greenwich, following reports of a car accelerated through a car park, truck a woman and entered the river.

Officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command, Marine Area Command, and Fire and Rescue NSW attended the scene, a short time after the 74-year-old woman was rescued by passers-by and one of the NSW Maritime vessels.

She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Following an intensive search operation, about 6.30pm on the same day, police recovered a body of an 86-year-old man from the river.

Police were told the man is known to the woman.

A crime scene was established, and police commenced an investigation into the incident.

Police will be working to recover the vehicle for a forensic examination.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
