Body Found in Search for Missing Swimmer

A man's body has been located during a search for a missing swimmer in the state's south.

About 12.30pm yesterday (Friday 24 January 2025), emergency services were called to the Murray River at the end of Micks Beach Road, Barooga, following reports of a man having difficulty in the water.

A short time later officers attached to Murray River Police District responded, with assistance from Victoria Police, Marine Area Command, Marine Rescue NSW and the SES launched a search for the missing 23-year-old man.

Following an ongoing search, the body of a man was located in waters nearby about 11.45am today (Saturday 25 January 2025).

While it is yet to be formally identified, the body is believed to be that of the missing man.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
