Body of missing swimmer located - Laughtondale

The body of a man who went missing while swimming in a river in Sydney's north west on Monday has been located.

About 6.10pm (Monday 17 January 2022), emergency services were called to the Hawkesbury River at Laughtondale, near Wisemans Ferry, following reports of a missing swimmer.

Police were told a 32-year-old man – who was on a houseboat with family and friends – went for a swim near the boat and failed to resurface.

Officers attached to Hawkesbury Police Area Command, with assistance from the Marine Area Command, Marine Rescue NSW, Maritime Services, NSW State Emergency Services (SES), Westpac Rescue Helicopter and local boaters commenced searching for the man.

Following an extensive search, the man's body was located in the river about 2.50pm today (Wednesday 19 January 2022).

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
