Results from the recent Bombala, Delegate, Bibbenluke and Cathcart area recycling survey are now available online on Council's website.

Over April and May 2024, Council conducted a survey to gain a better understanding of local recycling habits and gather community feedback on recycling services in the southern part of our region.

What these communities have told us will help inform what recycling services look like in the future, and are vital in helping Council understand where improvements need to be made. This feedback will also be instrumental in developing our upcoming waste and recycling education campaigns.

Key findings include:

  • 94% of respondents use their yellow-lidded recycling bin
  • 93% feel they understand what can go in the recycling bin
  • 71% of respondents believe their recycling doesn't actually get recycled
  • Paper and cardboard are the most commonly recycled materials
  • 87% feel more recycling bins are needed in public spaces

Mandy Thurling, Council's manager of resource and waste services, said the results provide valuable insights.

'We are pleased to see such high use of recycling bins, but it's clear we need to build more trust in the recycling process,' Ms Thurling said.

The survey also brought to light issues with our collection service in the area, which we are actively addressing with our contractor. The contractor has purchased a new collection vehicle, which is currently awaiting delivery. This new vehicle will soon be servicing the wider Bombala area.

Other feedback included requests for the introduction of a green waste collection service and more local recycling education.
