Wingecarribee Shire Council continues to work with the stakeholders of the Bowral CBD fire to have Bong Bong Street re-opened as soon as possible.
Council's General Manager Lisa Miscamble said Council was working with the property owners' representatives and Transport for NSW to ensure the site is secured and safe to enable the return of pedestrian and vehicle activity.
"We're continuing discussions with Transport for NSW, who manage this state-listed road, as well as property owner representatives," she said.
"Public safety is of paramount importance and only when this can be assured will the road reopen to pedestrians and through traffic."
Bong Bong Road is currently closed north of Boolwey Street through to Merrigang Street.
Council staff have also been in contact with local transport providers and schools ahead of school resuming next week.
"Everyone appreciates how important it is to reopen Bong Bong Street as a priority," Ms Miscamble added. "Initial discussions with stakeholders have been very productive and all parties are working closely together to ensure this happens as soon as possible."
Ms Miscamble said Council was also working with the Southern Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Industry and have established a business concierge for impacted businesses.
"Staff will be door-knocking affected businesses and detailing the plan of action moving forward," she said.
"This plan of action requires input from multiple local and state authorities.
"I'm confident that together we can safely reopen the CBD and have businesses back on their feet as soon as possible."
Council's General Manager said fire-impacted business owners should call Council's Business Concierge Officer on 4868 0888 to enquire about interim support.
