Boosting Health for Tasmanian Youth in Need

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Government's Kids Care Clinic program is successfully providing timely, needs-based health care to children across Tasmania.

The Kids Care Clinics offer paediatric medical and short-term allied healthcare for our young people who are experiencing social vulnerability and may face barriers in accessing current mainstream health services.

Since the start of the KCCs in March 2023, 5,500 appointments have been offered to 1,768 patients.

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said the Tasmanian Government was committed to giving every single Tasmanian child the best start in life and building safe and caring communities.

"We know it takes a village to support our children in reaching their potential, which is why we're so proud of the work being done by our Kids Care Clinics," Minister Barnett said.

"In just over 18 months of operations, the service has made a significant impact on the Tasmanian families by supporting the health and wellbeing of many young Tasmanians, an important priority under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future.

"Through these clinics, every child and family are provided with targeted health care tailored to their individual health needs and goals.

"Importantly, the Clinics prioritise children who are experiencing social vulnerabilities and barriers to accessing care.

"Paediatricians provide comprehensive health assessments, including checks of their medical, developmental and emotional wellbeing, ensuring that those who may experience difficulties receive timely care and are supported from the outset.

"Kids Care Clinics have been held in 20 different accessible community settings across the State – including child and family learning centres and neighbourhood houses – to provide this support closer to home and reduce barriers to accessing care."

The community-based paediatric service is part of the Tasmanian Liberal Government's 'It Takes a Tasmanian Village' Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy and is supported through a $6 million investment.
