Boosting Housing In Every Corner Of Victoria

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is creating more opportunity for Victorians right across the state, delivering more social homes for families in Gippsland.

Minister for Housing Harriet Shing today visited a social housing development in Moe featuring seven brand new, secure and energy efficient townhouses that will be home to families at risk of or experiencing homelessness, and people escaping family violence.

The Moe development is the result of a partnership between Homes Victoria and Community Housing Victoria Ltd, with the Labor Government investing more than $2.3 million in the project.

The new two and three-bedroom homes are modern and energy efficient, meaning residents will be able to stay warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

The homes are located less than a five-minute walk to Moe Railway Station, connecting people into bus and train services that go to Melbourne, and to Morwell and Traralgon in the east. The site is also a short walk to South Street Primary School and Moe Early Learning Centre, as well as health and employment services.

Across Gippsland, more than $220 million has been invested under the Big Housing Build and other housing capital works programs, to build 540 new social and affordable homes. Of these, 258 have already been completed. This investment resulted in the creation of more than 2,000 jobs.

It's all part of the Labor Government's investment to meet the high demand for social and affordable housing options across Victoria and get more people into safe and secure homes.

More than $6.3 billion is being invested through the Big Housing Build and Regional Housing Fund and we have more than 10,000 homes underway or complete right across the state, and nearly 5,000 households are moving in or have moved into brand new homes.

As stated by Minister for Housing Harriet Shing

"Every new home completed through our $6.3 billion investment changes the lives of Victorians for the better, improves our communities and creates tens of thousands of jobs."

"These homes in Moe represent safety and security for more Victorian families, with access to support and services that will enable them to thrive."

"We are tackling homelessness and housing insecurity with real, tangible solutions, and these homes are another example of our investment in Gippsland to deliver high quality, modern and secure housing for families."
