Three regional tourism projects are benefitting from a combined $2 million in low-interest loans to grow and diversify.
The Tasmanian Government's Regional Tourism Development Loan Scheme is boosting our world-class tourism industry by supporting exciting regional tourism projects.
Premier and Minister for Tourism, Jeremy Rockliff, said the scheme was part of the 2030 Tasmanian Visitor Economy Strategy which provides a long-term vision for the State's tourism industry.
"So far we have great projects at Mt Field, Rosebery and on King Island receiving low interest loan support to enhance their visitor offerings," Premier Rockliff said.
"While these three businesses are run by experienced tourism operators that is not a requirement to get one of the business growth loans. We want to support as many businesses as possible to diversify and expand.
"For Mt Field Retreat at Mt Field National Park, a $1 million loan will see the business expand its existing offering by building an additional eight accommodation pods.
"At Rosebery a $600,000 loan will go to rebuilding the Mount Black Lodge which was destroyed by fire in 2022 and will include 10 accommodation cabins.
"On King Island, a $400,000 loan will see the King Island Distillery Bass Strait build a café, cellar door and tasting experience at King Island Airport to showcase local produce."
An initial concessional interest rate applies for the first three years of the loan to support projects that deliver new or improved tourism products and experiences in regional Tasmania.
Premier Rockliff said the Government's 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future was all about backing in business, keeping the economy strong and creating jobs.
"The loan scheme gives tourism operators the confidence to bring forward investment, diversify and grow their businesses," Premier Rockliff said.
"We have a plan to sustainably grow our tourism industry, and regional tourism businesses will play an important role in helping to reach our goal of 1.6 million interstate visitors and 400,000 international visitors by 2030.
"With our hospitality and tourism industry injecting $5.5 billion into our economy and supporting 43,000 local jobs, we are backing this sector and making sure the benefits are spread right around the State."
