The Tasmanian Government has announced the initial schools that will receive funding for new and upgraded industry-standard equipment, as part of our $30 million Vocational Education and Training (VET) Futures Fund.
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said the Fund will deliver modern, fit-for-purpose VET facilities to prepare our young people for the future.
"I'm excited to announce that the first round of funding will provide a total investment of over $300,000 to our eight colleges," Minister Palmer said.
"Every Tasmanian Government college will receive funding to purchase relevant industry-standard equipment such as voltmeters, table saws, engine cranes, CPR mannequins and medical trollies.
"This will provide our young people with the chance to learn using contemporary equipment and develop the specialist skills they need for a rewarding career."
Minister for Skills and Training, Felix Ellis, said by investing in our young people, we can future-proof our workforce for years to come.
"Through our Government's Youth Jobs Strategy, the VET Futures Fund will help support a job-ready generation of young Tasmanians - a key element of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future," Minister Ellis said.
"This investment is foundational to developing skilled and in-demand workforces, such as in construction, community services and tourism and hospitality."
Government schools, colleges and Trade Training Centres were invited to submit expressions of interest for grants to fund industry-standard equipment.
A further 29 schools and trade training centres will receive funding from this first round to purchase industry standard equipment to support delivery of VET.
