The Albanese Labor Government is supporting young people and developing future leaders in Alice Springs and remote communities in Central Australia with a $34.1 million investment.
Following independent advice from the Central Australia Plan Aboriginal Leadership Group and the broader Central Australian community, $24.1 million will be invested in youth services, promoting the safety and wellbeing of First Nations youth, their families and communities.
$10 million will be dedicated to strengthening First Nations leadership, building capacity among current and emerging community leaders, and enhancing leadership within First Nations organisations across the region.
The Aboriginal Leadership Group is working with the government to provide further advice on specific projects and community designed initiatives that will support youth engagement.
This could include funding locally recruited youth workers; life skills programs; building entrepreneurial skills and upgrading youth service infrastructure in the region.
This investment will enhance the wellbeing of young people across Central Australia, providing opportunities to contribute to the economic and social development of their communities.
The initiatives are being funded through the Albanese Government's landmark plan for A Better, Safer Future for Central Australia, and will complement other programs being delivered under the plan.
