A man will be charged following a border breach and low speed pursuit in the States South East this morning.
About 12.30am Tuesday 17 November a small truck arrived at the Bordertown checkpoint from Victoria. The driver of the truck, a 26-year-old Victorian man, was refused entry and directed to head back to Victoria.
Later, about 2.50am, Murray Bridge patrols spotted the truck travelling through Tailem Bend. Police stopped the truck and spoke to the driver again, advising him he would be escorted back to the border.
At this time police allege the man took off in the truck along the Dukes Highway toward Coonalpyn. Police activated their emergency lights and followed the light truck at low speeds through Ki Ki and Coonalpyn before his driving became erratic and the pursuit was terminated due to safety.
The truck was spotted travelling through Tintinara, before police attempted to spike the vehicle just north of Keith. The truck avoided the road spikes and continued through Keith turning on to the Riddoch Highway.
About 5.50am the light truck was successfully spiked on the Riddoch Highway just near Mount Monster and the driver arrested.
The man is expected to be charged with a number of traffic offences and breaching a COVID-19 direction. He will be refused bail and appear in Court today.
The truck was towed from the scene and impounded.
