Knox locals are being invited to have their say on proposed upgrades to Boronia Station and a new public plaza connecting the station to Dorset Road.
The Victorian Government's plans bring Knox Council's vision for renewing the heart of Boronia a step closer. Rebuilding the station and creating new pedestrian and community spaces are central to Council's renewal plans to bring new life to the suburb, and key priorities that Council has advocated for.
The train line cuts the centre of Boronia in half and a new station forecourt and landscaped plaza will make access between Erica Avenue, Boronia Station and the Dorset Road shopping precinct easier and safer.
Designs for the plaza include landscaping, seating and lighting to create an inviting public space that connects directly to a new pedestrian crossing across Dorset Road.
Improvements to the platform include upgrades to station furniture, shelters and toilets and updates to the passenger waiting room.
There will be increased station lighting and CCTV to improve safety.
The ticket and Protective Services offices will be relocated to enable the station concourse to be widened to improve access over the rail line.
New canopies over the entrances will be added and an updated pick-up and drop-off area will be built along Lupton Way, with better connections to the bike path network.
Public transport services are well used by residents driving to Boronia station from a large catchment, which extends into the foothills. The precinct's current trade catchment is expected to increase from 155,000 to 177,000 people by 2041.
The Boronia Station Upgrade is expected to be completed in 2026.
