Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce, visited the Tannum Sands esplanade this week to announce that an elected LNP Government will deliver $400,000 to improve accessibility at the historic beachfront and Surf Life Saving Club.
Mr Boyce said funding will support key upgrades, including construction of dedicated accessible areas, ensuring more community members, regardless of age or mobility, can enjoy the coastline, take part in activities and make use of the club's facilities.
"These upgrades are long overdue and will ensure no one in the community is left behind," Mr Boyce said.
"Established in 1936, the Tannum Sands Surf Life Saving Club has been a pillar of the Boyne Tannum community, not only as a lifesaving hub but also as a venue for local events, community gatherings, and training programs.
"The Surf Lifesaving Club has recently opened to adaptive competitions, allowing people of all abilities to participate in the sport. However, the beach entrance and some facilities remain inaccessible for those with disabilities or limited mobility.
"This project is about inclusivity. Whether it's enjoying the beach, taking part in a training session, or gathering for a community event, everyone deserves to enjoy this space without barriers. This investment will help make that a reality, and I look forward to seeing the Club continue to grow with further improvements already in the pipeline.
"Tannum Sands Beach and the Surf Club are a vital part of our local identity, and these upgrades will enhance accessibility for members and visitors alike. It will be fantastic to see more people enjoying this iconic location and supporting a beloved local institution that has been at the heart of Tannum Sands for nearly 90 years."
