The Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce continues to show his support for the regions that he proudly represents.
Mr Boyce said the recent funding announcement at the Biloela Multisport Complex (BMC) was no different, promising $1.2 million in upgrades and repairs.
"The works to repair the Biloela Multisport Complex (BMC) have been a long time coming. I am pleased to announce that an elected LNP Government will contribute $1.2 million to carry out the necessary upgrades to get the BMC back up to scratch," Mr Boyce said.
"The insurance funds received by the previous owner should have been used for these repairs, and this had been the community's expectation after the storm damage was incurred.
"Previously the PCYC building, it was founded on community donations and social club support, providing a wide range of activities to families in the Biloela area. A 24-hour gym with personal trainers, indoor sports, gymnastics and tumblebugs have all been offered at this building over the past 20 years.
"With the continued support of the local Council, we have worked together to ensure that this facility can be fully used by the community again.
"I'm pleased the Biloela Basketball Association, families and players were on-hand to hear the good news."
Geoff Price, President of the Biloela Basketball Association said it's fantastic that Colin Boyce made an election commitment for the upgrades needed to rebuild the BMC.
"We use the facilities 5 days a week, with Juniors, Ladies and Men's teams taking to the courts on Thursdays and Fridays for matches," Mr Price said.
"This association only started a few years ago, and we are already seeing great success with our representative teams travelling around regional Queensland. The Bees recent wins in Rockhampton have put them in second place in the Central Queensland Junior Basketball Competition.
"Our Under 16s are attending the state titles this year and we are excited to see what they can do."
Now known as the Biloela Multi-Sport Complex, it also has the support of the new Biloela Futsal League with a summer season consisting of juniors and adults, including several workplace teams on Monday and Tuesday nights.
Kristy Middleton, Secretary of the Biloela Basketball Association strongly welcomed the announcement which will fund upgrades such as the roof replacement, cooling units and industrial fans, floor rehabilitation and repairs, kitchen improvements, and repairs to footings and stairs, as well as an internal repaint.
"Everyone will appreciate the cooling units and industrial fans as it gets hot through Summer," Ms Middleton said.
Banana Shire Council Mayor, Nev Ferrier said the announcement would be welcomed by the Biloela community.
"You won't get me in there playing basketball or futsal," Mayor Ferrier laughed.
"It's good to see the community support for the BMC and the families back enjoying their indoor sports."
