Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce, visited the small community of Bouldercombe this week to announce that an elected LNP Government will deliver $40,000 for new, safer bus shelters at the Richmond Drive intersection.
Mr Boyce was joined by Senator Matt Canavan, Councillor Edward Oram, local business owners Timothy and Rachel Ciesiolka, and representatives from the Bouldercombe Progress Association to announce this much-needed investment for the Bruce Highway and Richmond Drive intersection, where students wait each morning in the sun or rain for their school bus.
The funding will be provided to Rockhampton Regional Council to construct new bus shelters, significantly improving safety and comfort for students from Bouldercombe, Mount Morgan, and surrounding regions.
In addition, secure bicycle storage racks will be installed to encourage active transport and prevent bike theft, a growing concern for local families.
Mr Boyce said the shelters will protect children from harsh weather conditions while also reducing the risks associated with crossing the busy 80 km/h highway.
"Every child deserves a safe and accessible journey to school," Mr Boyce said.
"Currently, students are exposed to harsh weather and forced to navigate a busy highway to catch their bus. This project reduces unnecessary risks, ensuring students have a secure, sheltered space while waiting for transport.
"I have listened to the community and their concerns over student safety. Local business owners, including those at Gun Pitt Coffee, have shared video footage of students standing in the pouring rain, highlighting the urgency of action.
"This initiative is about more than just bus shelters, it's an investment in the safety, security and the wellbeing of local children and the broader community.
"No parent should have to worry about their child's safety while they wait for a school bus. The community has called for action, and this is a simple, practical solution that delivers real results for families.
"This announcement demonstrates the LNP's commitment to supporting regional communities and delivering tangible improvements where they are needed most."
