The Greens relevancy to the Flynn electorate continues to dissolve with recent comments by their Gladstone-based Senator Penny Allman-Payne.
Colin Boyce MP, Member for Flynn, took time out of his hectic mobile office schedule to give his thoughts on the Senator's statement.
"The Gladstone community and the Boyne smelter rely heavily on reliable, predictable and affordable power. The reality of wind and solar output, for anyone enjoying their air-conditioning in this current heat, is that it cannot provide any of this.
"It is not a 24-hr baseload solution. It isn't always windy and it's certainly not that sunny after 7pm," Mr Boyce said.
"Where has the Senator been while the regional communities who are bearing the brunt of these encroaching and environmentally destructive projects have been crying out for help? Particularly from the Greens?
"Why doesn't the Senator get out and meet with these groups who are having their livelihoods and food producing agricultural land destroyed?
Nuclear provides about 25% of the worlds' electricity already1 and could easily support the manufacturing industry in Gladstone into the 22nd century, with an expected life span of 80 years.
"You would have to replace the solar panels and wind turbines at least 4 times over in the same period. The waste problems and the sheer footprint with these projects and transmission lines are already compounding.
"Nuclear can provide a cheap and stable power supply when the coal-fired power stations are retired. The Coalition's plan will save $263 Billion for Australians compared to Labor's renewables only approach.
"I'm a proud supporter and advocate for the aluminium and heavy industries in Gladstone."
