More new social and affordable homes will soon be delivered in the heart of Heidelberg West through a partnership between the Allan Labor Government and the Albanese Labor Government.
Minister for Housing Harriet Shing today visited the site to announce the delivery of 104 new social and affordable homes as part of stage one of the Bell Bardia Project.
The new 104 hectare site will have a mix of 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom homes to increase much-needed social and affordable housing supply including for those at risk of or experiencing homelessness, pensioners and victim-survivors of family violence.
The modern and energy efficient design of the homes mean renters will be warm in winter and cool in summer, while saving on their power bills.
The site is exactly where we need to be building more homes - only 10km from the Melbourne CBD and close to schools, public transport, community services, shopping centres and the Austin Hospital.
Planning and design are underway for the project and the community will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the plans, with consultation scheduled between July and September.
Under the Allan Labor Government's nation-leading $5.3 billion Big Housing Build, more than 9,400 new homes have been completed or are underway with more than 4,000 Victorians moving into their new homes.
Additionally a $1 billion Regional Housing Fund will deliver at least 1,300 homes right across regional Victoria. A further 769 homes will be built in Victoria with almost $500 million in funding from the Albanese Government's Social Housing Accelerator.
The Allan Labor Government's Big Housing Build and landmark Housing Statement are creating the conditions to enable 800,000 new homes to be built over the next decade in every corner of Victoria.
As stated by Minister for Housing Harriet Shing
"Our record funding for more social and affordable housing in Victoria will help thousands of singles, couples and families live in homes they can be proud of while creating thousands of jobs around the state."
"The new homes at Bell Bardia will be modern, energy efficient and designed to meet modern building standards, providing safe and secure spaces."
As stated by Member for Ivanhoe Anthony Carbines
