Partnership to combat hunger and measures to ensure a just energy transition for economic growth. The Brazilian priorities for the G20 were on the agenda of the meeting between the presidents of Brasil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Italy, Sergio Mattarella, held this Monday, July 15, in Brasilia. The two member states of the forum are among the world's ten largest economies; they maintain cooperation in the fields of trade and investment.

Lula invited Italy to join the G20 Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty given the country's pioneering stance in mechanisms that exchange foreign debt for food. On the issue of the energy transition, the Brazilian president underscored the Italian participation in the Global Alliance about Biofuels, launched during the Indian presidency of the forum last year. "We will continue to work together to disseminate the knowledge and technology required to expand the use of this alternative source of energy", he said.

Mattarella highlighted the historical partnership between the countries, particularly with regard to the cultural cooperation between Brasil and Italy. He ensured the Italian support to the climate change, energy transition, and food security agendas, as well as to combating inequalities, which he characterized as "key thematic areas for deciding the future of the young generations and those who will come after them".

The meeting marked the 150 years of the Italian immigration to Brasil. Memorandums of Understanding were also signed between the University of Turim, EMBRAPA (the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation), and the University of São Paulo (USP).
