Federal Nationals Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan has joined NSW Nationals Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh and newly elected City of Coffs Harbour Mayor Nikki Williams to celebrate the official opening of the long-awaited Brelsford Park upgrades.
Just under $5 million was awarded to the project in July 2021 as part of the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery program.
Following the successful grant bid, Council invited community and key stakeholder feedback on design elements of the proposed plan, and after a reshuffling of Council priorities, the much-anticipated works are now complete.
"As the old saying goes, good things come to those who wait, and I know this particular upgrade has been keenly followed since the funding was originally awarded by the joint State and Federal Coalition Governments three years ago," Mr Conaghan said.
"Brelsford Park has long been a hub for community events and activities, so it's wonderful to see the space officially open and ready to welcome the community.
"It's great to be here with Mayor Williams as well. I look forward to working collaboratively with her and Gurmesh in coming months as we plan more vital upgrades like this one for the Coffs Harbour region."
Mr Singh said the local community is celebrating Brelsford Park's transformation into a vibrant hub for events and activities.
"Brelsford Park has always held special significance for the people of Coffs Harbour, which is why this much-needed revitalisation is so welcome," Mr Singh said.
"I commend City of Coffs Harbour on this impressive upgrade, which has created a lively and inclusive place where community wellbeing, culture and leisure come alive.
"I'm delighted this substantial investment from the former Federal and NSW Coalition Governments has breathed new life into this precinct, right next to our CBD."
