Brewers Urge Draught Beer Tax Cut Amid New Hike

Brewers Association of Australia

As the Government announces yet another hike in the beer tax the Brewers Association of Australia has called for the tax to be cut for beers poured in the pub.

Commenting on the increase announced today, Brewers Association CEO, John Preston, said:

"Beer drinkers are set to be slammed by yet another excise tax increase at a time when people are already struggling with the rising cost of living.

"This tax has gone up twice a year for over 30 years. We've now got the third highest beer tax in the world.

"We all know the benefits of people getting out and socialising with friends and family but these tax increases are making this unaffordable for Australians.

"Enough is enough. We're calling for the Federal Government to step in and cut the rate of tax for beers served in hospitality venues back to a sensible level.
