The free community event is presented by Wollongong City Council and will be held on Thursday 12 December. The festivities will start at 7pm and run until around 8.30pm.

"This is such a lovely collaboration with Wollongong City Council and we're all really excited to have vocal teacher Trish Delaney-Brown as the musical director," CEO of Wollongong Conservatorium of Music, Annette Brown said.

"She's organised a special WollCon Christmas Band for the night and along with some of our choirs, and all the other performers, it's going to be a great opportunity for the local community to come together for Christmas."

"Christmas just isn't Christmas without a big community carols sing-along," Ms Delaney-Brown said.

"You'll be able to sing to your favourite songs and just generally relax into the joyful spirit of the season. WollCon is all about music in our community, so come and share it with us!"

Isaia Akava from the Cook Island Church Choir also expressed the group's excitement at performing and sharing the stage with other community groups.

"We're excited by the opportunity to share our Cook Island culture and our traditions with Wollongong during this Christmas event. One of the carols we will sing will be in our traditional language, so I hope everyone enjoys it," he said.

"I encourage everyone to come together as a family and community to celebrate. Come and enjoy the spirit and love of celebrating Christmas."

In between the carols, there will be live stage shows including a Christmas show from Circus Monoxide. There will also be roving entertainment including Hula Hooping Elves as well as festive face painting. Rumour has it Santa Claus will visit towards the end of the event, so make sure you stay around.

"We're well into the festive season and I'm excited to see our community get together to share a fun filled family evening," Lord Mayor of Wollongong Councillor Tania Brown said.

"Please bring a gift for a child in need as part of the City of Wollongong Giving Tree. And why not come early and grab a bite at the Crown Street Night Markets before heading down to MacCabe Park for carols.

"This free event is perfect for the whole family. So come along with your picnic rugs, reindeer ears and your best Chrissy shirt for a great night under the stars.

"And don't forget to warm up your vocals to join our talented performers who'll be singing classics such as Jingle Bell Rock and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer."
