Free mid-year pet registration is on offer to the Playford community at the inaugural Safe Pets Safe Families.

Community Connections Day at Fremont Park, Elizabeth East, on 1 April.

Council have joined with Safe Pets Safe Families to run the pet-friendly event from 12.30pm to 3.30pm for pet owners to learn about pet-care, behaviour and socialisation, desexing, registration and microchipping costs.

Bring along your furry friend and enjoy a free BBQ, soft drinks, raffle and giveaways and pet health and behaviour advice.

The City of Playford will also be onsite offering free mid-year registration to dogs residing in Playford, while Community Inspectors will be onsite to answer questions about excessive barking, pet permits and general pet ownership enquires.

Safe Pets Safe Families - Keeping people & pets together is a charity that offers a range of services to support pet owners. From free pop-up vet clinics for the homeless, emergency pet foster for those in crisis to community events providing information about desexing, microchipping, registration assistance and access to essential pet care resources.

The program also provides financial and transport assistance for the release of impounded animals, ensuring that pet owners facing difficulties can still access the care their pet needs.

City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty encourages the community to take advantage of not just the free pet registration but also the opportunity to socialise with fellow pet-lovers.

"Spending time in our wonderful Fremont Park with your special pet is a great way to enhance your pet's socialisation at the same as gaining helpful pet ownership advice," Mayor Docherty said.

"Responsible pet ownership is an important role we can all play in the community, so let's get down to this event and have some fun in the sun with our pets!"
