Brisbane Olympics Announcement Sparks Relief, Excitement

The Australian Industry Group has welcomed today's announcement on venues for Brisbane's 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A new 60,000-seat Olympic stadium will be built at inner-city Victoria Park, and a 25,000-seat aquatic centre will be built at nearby Centenary Pool.

The RNA Showgrounds, home of 'the Ekka', will get a 20,000-seat arena and house an athletes' village, Queensland Premier David Crisafulli said.

Ai Group Head of Queensland Michelle Farquhar said the long-awaited announcement on venues would bring clarity for the State's businesses.

"There is a sense of relief and excitement after today's announcement," Ms Farquhar said.

"At last Queensland businesses can get to work to build the Olympic and Paralympic experience that we can all be proud of.

"Enormous challenges still exist to deliver projects on time and on budget. However, there is strong belief in our capacity to stage a uniquely Queensland Olympics and leave the community with legacy infrastructure that transforms South East Queensland."

The new 60,000-seat stadium will host track and field events and the opening and closing ceremonies.

Brisbane Tennis Centre will be upgraded with a new 3000-seat court next to Pat Rafter Arena and 12 extra courts.

Soccer will be hosted in Cairns and Townsville. Sailing will also be co-hosted in Townsville, and hockey will be played at an upgraded centre on the Gold Coast.
