Minister for Resources and Water Keith Pitt has welcomed the appointment of six new members to the Murray-Darling Basin Authority's Basin Community Committee.
The Minister said the new members appointed to three-year terms are:
- Mr Andrew Drysdale (Top Camp, Qld)
- Mr Feli McHughes (Lightning Ridge, NSW)
- Ms Alice Williams (Orange, NSW)
- Mr Mike Gilby (Irymple, Vic)
- Ms Emelia Sudholdz (Horsham, Vic)
- Mr Warren Jacobs (Mt Compass, SA)
Continuing Committee members are Mr Phil Duncan (Moree, NSW) as Chair, Mr Sam Coulton (Goondiwindi, Qld), Ms Samantha O'Toole (St George, Qld), Ms Rachel Kelly (Moama, NSW), Mr Ed Fessey (Brewarrina, NSW), Mr Adrian Weston (Rushworth, Vic), Ms Sue Rudd (Merbein, Vic), and Mr Neil Martinson (Renmark, SA). Ms Susan Madden (Dubbo, NSW) will continue as the Authority's member of the Committee.
"All 15 members will bring strong local insights and knowledge from communities across the Murray-Darling Basin to share with the Authority and Basin governments," Mr Pitt said.
"Members' connection with communities across the Basin is highly valued by the Authority, its partners and Ministerial Council as water management is deeply important to communities in so many ways."
The Minister thanked outgoing Committee members for their contributions.
Background
The Committee is established under the Water Act 2007 and is selected based on agreed criteria.
Committee members provide advice to the Authority about the performance of the Authority's functions including:
- Engaging the community about each draft Basin Plan;
- Community matters relating to Basin water resources; and
- Matters referred to the Committee by the Authority.
